Safety starts with speaking up

A question, a concern or a quick check-in gives your team the chance to address risk before it becomes an incident. Real conversations are not about blame. They are about looking out for one another.

IH Services 5-4-0 Weekly Safety poster, week of October 5, 2026: Real conversations. Safety starts with speaking up.

Three behaviors to talk through with your crew

  1. Look out for one another. People doing the work often see risk first. Check in, and step in respectfully when something does not look right.
  2. Speak up early. Ask when you are unsure. Raise hazards before work continues. One respectful conversation can change the outcome.
  3. How we respond matters. Listen. Thank people for speaking up. Focus on the risk, not the person.

Today’s challenge

Have one meaningful safety conversation today. Ask, observe, check in or say thanks.

Speak up. Listen. Look out for one another.
